Wednesday Reflection Week 5

Posted by Sang on February 1, 2007

Finally~ something I was looking forward in this class: the lecture in Emerging Church. One of the reason I signed up for this class was because I was interested in the emerging churches and Dr. Bolger’s research on the topic since I am currently planting a church. It is very interesting in seeing how God works in different places with different people. One thing that came up in the discussions was the criticism from both sides (the traditional and the emerging church). This is natural since the whole emerging church movment seems to have began from criticism and reaction of the traditional local churches. As much as I see the value of the emerging chruches and being sensitive of the new works of the Spirit, I wish both sides would drop the critiquing part. Yes, definitely there are problems in the traditional churches today (just as there are in emergining churches) but I believe our calling is to reform those problematic aspects and work towards the solution; not to categorize one as the right (or wrong) way of doing church. I know, I might sound very idealistic or unrealistic but the reality is that we will never accomplish a perfect and holistic ministry in this world. It is our effort towards it that counts and our hearts of loving one another which God sees and is pleased with.
